A modern, fully accessible
transport interchange

  • 01A safe and comfortable station with improved environment and amenities

  • 02Step free access to all platforms

  • 03Integrated train, tram, bus and taxi facilities

  • 04An efficient, attractive facility of which the city can be proud

Why is Haymarket Station being redeveloped?

  • 01It is Scotland’s fourth busiest railway station, handling over 4 million passengers each year

  • 02Passenger numbers are expected to be approx. 10 million in the next 15 years

  • 03Facilities and amenities are inadequate for current passenger levels

  • 04Accessibility throughout the station does not meet acceptable standards

What are we doing?

There are four main elements to the proposed scheme:

  • 01Creating a new station concourse and building
  • 02A new access bridge with step free access to platform level
  • 03Improving the existing station building and platform accommodation
  • 04Installing new platform level canopies

The new station

From May 2012, Haymarket Station will be redeveloped creating:

  • 01an exciting, modern, fully accessible railway station
  • 02a new passenger friendly facility with internal and external waiting areas
  • 03facilities and amenities to enhance the passenger experience
  • 04an efficient, attractive gateway to the west of the city
